Summer Heat

Summer has finally arrived and it sure has brought the intense heat! Yesterday reached the high 90's and so did today's temperature. And while swimming in pools, sitting in air conditioning, and getting ice cream can help keep the heat away, what about your car? If your car isn't well maintained for the summer heat, you could encounter some serious issues. So we've gathered some tips to help keep your vehicle well kept for the summer season.

1. Check your tires!
Keeping the air pressure in your tires accurate can save you from changing a blown tire. An under-inflated tire bulges outward and applies pressure to the sidewalls, causing the tire to blow with the right amount heat and pressure. An over-inflated tired makes less contact with the road. Also, when adjusting the air pressure in your tires, be sure to consult to your vehicle's owner manual for the right amount of PSI for each tire. It's best to inflate your tires when they are cold and haven't ran in a few hours.

2. Hoses and Belts
The hoses connected to your radiator contribute to the flow of coolant to and from the engine, while the belt runs the fan that helps cool the system as a whole. Check all hoses and belts for cracks because if you see one, they may break causing your engine to overheat. All leaks and loose connections should be taken care of right away before you are left stranded on the side of the road!

3.Keep The Fluids Filled
Be sure to keep all fluids in your car filled, such as antifreeze, oil, Freon and windshield washer fluid. Antifreeze keeps your engine nice and cool and will prevent it from overheating. Changing your oil and air filter is something just about every car knows they need to do. It keeps your car performing at it's best, especially in the cold winters and hot summers. And the summer season is notorious for summer showers, so keep your washer fluid filled for after the rain. Oh, and replace your windshield wipers so you're ready for the next rainfall.

There are many other tips to keep your car performing well in the summer. Cleaning your battery, changing air filter, and checking your brakes are just to name a few. Do yourself a favor and prepare your car for the summer because you don't want to be stranded on your way to the beach!
