2012 Philadelphia Auto Show Highlights

This past Friday, Murphy Ford was given early access to the 2012 Philadelphia Auto Show for press day. It was pretty neat being able to walk on top of displays and sit inside the new Ford models. Ford’s biggest reveals at their displays was the 2013 Ford Escape, 2013 Ford Fusion, and the 2013 C-Max Energi (Plug-in hybrid). Ford Escape Marketing Manager, Jason Sprawka, gave a presentation highlighting these vehicles. Some other Ford vehicles on display were the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO, 2013 Ford Mustang BOSS 302, and the 2012 Ford F-150 with the Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award on top. 2012 Philadelphia Auto Show Featured Cars

We are excited that the 1969 Mustang Boss 429 is on display. Originally built to compete in NASCAR races, the Boss 1969 is one of the rarest Mustangs that Ford has manufactured. There are only about 700 known to exist today (Only 1,350 were produced).

Ford Escape Routes: Casting for New Web Series

Do you love adventure? How about technology? Do you thrive on competition? If you answered yes to these three questions then Ford is looking for you!


Ford is searching for an “elite crop of drivers – teams of two with a strong presence on the web and a hunger for adventure – to take the wheel of the all-new Ford Escape”. Similar to the Fiesta Movement and Focus Rally America , Ford is once again partnering with Emmy award winning producers to create an interactive reality web series, Escape Routes.

Much like the Focus Rally, six two-person teams will participate in a cross-country roadtrip while competing in psychical and mental challenges along the way. The teams will be driving the all new 2013 Ford Escape with class-leading fuel economy and 11 exclusive features.

The grand prizes of the competition have not been announced but we are guessing one of them will be a 2013 Ford Escape. The reason we guess this is because the winners of the Focus Rally (The Grey Team- John and Carolyn) won a new 2012 Focus and $100,000.

Ford is also giving America the opportunity to vote for their favorite team to be cast. The winner will be one of the six teams in the competition. Fan support and engagement is a big part to the competition. In the Focus Rally, over 30,000 fans played along and chose their favorite teams to follow.

2012 Philadelphia Auto Show Announcement

The 2012 Philadelphia Auto Show will be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center from January 28th to February 5th. Every year the Auto Show begins with the Black Tie Tailgate, which will take place on January 27th.

Last year, the Philadelphia Auto Show won the title of “Best Local Event” in the Philly HOT LIST contest, which was sponsored by PHL17.

Murphy Ford will be attending the Auto Show again and posting pictures of event. Even though their has not been an official announcement as to which vehicles Ford will be featuring, we have a few guesses based on what was featured at the LA Auto Show . Expect to see debut, green and concept vehicles such as the:

MyFord Touch Update and Enchancements

Ford owners, ask and you shall receive. Because of feedback from existing Ford owners whose vehicles have MyFord Touch, Ford is enhancing their premiere technology. An update is coming out for existing MyFord Touch customers and on new 2013 Ford models.

MyFord Touch is a “driver connect technology”, that also harnesses the power of SYNC, to connect a driver to the rest of the world. In vehicles equipped with MyFord Touch, drivers use a combination of touch controls and voice commands to control their vehicle’s system as they drive.

In customer clinics held by Ford, customers divulged to Ford engineers how they felt about the MyFord Touch system. Ford learned that while the technology was a key reason behind their purchasing decision, customers still had suggestions of ways the system could be improved. Customers revealed that what appealed to them about the technology were features such as the touch-screen, steering wheel controls and voice commands. In the clinics, Ford learned that customers wanted simpler graphics and controls as well as faster responses from the touch-screen, making the system easier to use.

So rather than dismissing their customers’ complaints, Ford decided to make some changes to MyFord Touch. The newly updated system will be available on the 2013 Ford Escape, Flex and Taurus. Here are some things Ford owners can expect from the update:

-Larger, bolder fonts on the dashboard screen (some fonts as much as 40% larger)
-Consistent design on all screens
-Low-priority images being removed to take away from the screen looking cluttered
-High-use controls relocated closer to the driver’s reach
-Faster touch-screen and voice recognition response time (at least twice as fast as those in current MyFord Touch systems)
-Improved phone and tablet compatibility
-View Ford Motor Company’s Press Release to see more upgrade enhancements

The update will also be available to current owners of 2011 and 2012 models of the Ford Explorer and Edge and the 2012 Ford Focus, that are equipped with MyFord Touch. MyLincoln Touch systems will also be able to download the update; so owners of the 2011 and 2012 Lincoln MKX will be included as well. In the next few months, owners of these vehicles will be mailed a USB flash drive to install the system update. To install the update, all owners need to do is plug the flash drive in the MyFord Touch Media Hub USB port and the download will happen immediately. Customers can also schedule an appointment with their Ford dealer to have the update completed. As this update comes out, our service department will be ready to assist all of our customers.
